[LCK Today] Both DWG KIA and T1 pick up their 11th victory of the split; Gen.G falls to 5th place in the standings

Day 41 of the 2021 LCK Summer split took place on Aug 8. Both DWG KIA and T1 defeated their opponents 2-0. While both winning teams of the night grabbed their 11th match victory of the split, Gen.G fell down to 5th place in the standings.

DK and Gen.G faced off in the first match of the split. DK flexed Syndra into the bot lane with Trundle, which completely stifled Gen.G’s bot lane, Aphelios-Tahm Kench. Because of the priority bot lane had, DK focused on getting Kim “Khan” Dong-ha’s Jayce ahead, which paid off in the mid-late game.

Despite Noh “Burdol” Tae-yoon’s Wukong showing spirit in teamfights, it was not enough to change the tides. Kim “Rascal” Kwang-hee was subbed in for Burdol in game 2, and he proved his worth by holding the team together.

It was a back and forth bout between the two teams; after Heo “ShowMaker” Su’s Leblanc got caught out by Rascal’s Viego, they had the chance to take the elder dragon soul. DK responded by rushing straight down the mid lane to go for Gen.G’s nexus, but Gen.G was able to hang on with a sliver of health on their nexus. After some time, DK was able to catch Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong out, which led to them destroying Gen.G’s nexus and defeating them 2-0.

In the second series of the match, T1 defeated DRX 2-0. In game 1, Moon “Oner” Hyeon-joon focused on getting Kim “Canna” Chang-dong’s Jayce ahead, which snowballed into a very one-sided game in favor of T1. While DRX did put up a fight at certain points in the game, it wasn’t enough for them to take T1 down. Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong’s Jinx seemed unstoppable, as he was able to deal an absurd amount of damage.

In game 2, DRX had a great deal of control in the early-mid game. Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon was able to pull off a successful dive against T1’s bot lane, which enabled him to put a ton of pressure all over the map. He was even able to steal the rift herald away from T1, which put them at a 2K gold lead at 20 minutes.

However, DRX once again was not able to put on the pressure. T1 was able to buy enough time for Gumayusi’s Ezreal to scale, and DRX’s movements around the map have gotten less proactive. Eventually, T1 was able to clean up a teamfight in the mid lane, thus closing out the series 2-0 and getting their 11th victory of the split.
