GEN Flawless on which champion could become the next Udyr: "I think [Ivern]'s a champion worth digging into."

On the 30th, in the 2021 LCK Spring Split, Gen.G defeated Liiv SANDBOX 2-0. Sung “Flawless” Yeon-jun started again in this match after his first start against DWG KIA. In today’s match, he contributed to the team’s victory by playing Olaf and Pantheon. After the match, he joined Inven for an interview.

How do you feel about today’s win?

I’m happy that we won 2-0. It’s relief that we stopped the losing streak.

You’ve been in many teams up to now. How is your mindset after joining Gen.G?

I moved around a lot, so I didn’t feel at home nor had any stability. That affected the game. Now that I joined a great team like Gen.G, I feel more relaxed and that’s really good.

Gen.G always dominates the teams that they’re expected to defeat. What do you think the reason is?

We had prepared well and since we’re calm while we play, the games went well.

You were the starting jungler in the game against DWG KIA and today. How were the decisions made within the team?

The coaching staff had faith in me. I just did my best to answer their expectations.

In the recent meta, Taliyah seems to be at the top for jungle. Why is that? What do you think about the jungle champion tiers?

Taliyah’s jungling is really fast, so you can use your turn any way you want. If there’s no Taliyah, I’d say Olaf, Udyr, and Lillia are good. It’s important to use turns early, so the champions that have fast jungling are good.

Are there any other champions that could be the next Udyr?

Ivern. I think it’s a champion worth digging into. Before Udyr became popular in the LCK, I met an Udyr master in solo queue. I felt a wall there. A few days later, Pyosik played him. Recently, I met an Ivern master and felt a similar thing.

Ivern appeared rather frequently in Europe or China, but it wasn’t played much in the LCK. What’s the reason?

That, I’m also curious. [Laughs] In the LEC or LPL, Ivern still gets picked now and then. I’m not sure, but it’s probably because it's good in teamfights and good to sync turns. I tried playing Ivern when I was in China, but it didn’t go well with me, so I gave up back then. Recently, I felt the need to try again.

Any last comments?

There’s still a lot that I lack, but I’ll work hard so that I can become a mature player.
