Immortals will be starting the entire Immortals Academy roster for the second week of the 2021 League of Legends Championship Series Lock In. The announcement was made by the organization on its official Twitter account.
Due to visa issues, Immortals had already started 3/5 of IMT Academy in the first week of the Lock In. Jungler Andrei "Xerxe" Dragomir, AD carry Quin "Raes" Korebrits and support Mitchell "Destiny" Shaw were unavailable for the start of the tournament, so Nicholas James Joseph "Potluck" Pollock, Yuri "Keith" Jew and Joseph "Joey" Haslemann filled in alongside mid laner David "Insanity" Challe and rookie top laner Mo "Revenge" Kaddoura.
Despite strong performances from its solo laners, IMT struggled due to a lack of team cohesion and against Cloud9, Evil Geniuses, and Dignitas, only managing to pick up a win against the latter team. At 1-2, IMT sits tied for 3rd place in Group B with DIG and has one game against the 0-2 FlyQuest left in the group.
The decision to start IMT Academy makes sense from Immortals' perspective. Destiny's visa has been approved, and 4/5 of Immortals' LCS roster is currently in Los Angeles at the team's headquarters.
Not only will IMT Academy — who started out the 2021 North American Academy 2021 Spring Split 2-0 over Golden Guardians Academy and 100 Thieves Academy — get some time against LCS squads, but this will also allow Revenge and Insanity time to practice with the newly arrived starters before the start of the LCS Spring Split on February 5. In addition, IMT head coach Andre "Guilhoto" Guilhoto has been revealed by the team to be en route to Los Angeles following his visa's approval.
