On the 5th (local time), SEGA shared special news celebrating Sonic's 35th anniversary during the 'Summer Game Fest 2026' live stream. In addition to various collaborations for 'Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds,' the company revealed 'SONIC PICO PARK,' a new licensed indie game scheduled for release later this year.

■ Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

First, the debut gameplay for the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pack' for 'Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds,' launching in July 2026, was revealed. Based on the film 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,' this pack allows players to race as four iconic turtle characters: Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo. It also adds new vehicles, courses, and TMNT-themed music tracks.

The 'Avatar Pack,' scheduled for release in October 2026, was also showcased for the first time. Players can take on the roles of fan-favorite characters Aang and Katara to utilize elemental abilities, with the pack also including Avatar-themed vehicles, courses, music tracks, and emotes.

Finally, a sneak peek at the 'Year Two' update for 'Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds' was provided. Exciting new content was teased, including the 'Godzilla DLC Pack' and 'EVANGELION DLC Pack,' both featuring intense courses and massive characters. 'Season Pass Two' will include a total of six new DLC packs, with more details to be revealed later in 2026.

■ SONIC PICO PARK

Alongside this, SEGA announced a new game, 'SONIC PICO PARK,' as part of a new indie partnership. Developed by TECOPARK and published by Japan's PICO PARK, this title is a new Sonic-licensed game inspired by the popular indie hit 'PICO PARK.'

In connection with this, SEGA set up a demo station for 'SONIC PICO PARK' on-site during the Summer Game Fest 'Play Days.' 'SONIC PICO PARK' is a cooperative game for two to eight players, blending the series' signature puzzle-focused co-op action with Sonic's unique flair.

Players control iconic characters like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, exploring elements needed to progress, moving in coordination, and helping each other navigate to survive. 'SONIC PICO PARK' offers a gameplay experience that highlights character traits; for instance, there are sections where players must grab onto Tails and fly to move forward, given his ability to fly. Additionally, some areas cannot be cleared unless the entire team moves together, allowing players to experience a sense of accomplishment after solving problems through repeated attempts and teamwork.

To encourage more active thinking and engagement, the game does not provide detailed instructions even when stages change and require new types of moves or techniques. This makes it essential for players to rely on one another and discuss strategies, a core aspect that defines the identity of 'SONIC PICO PARK.'
