GEN Kiin: "If you have faith in yourself, good days will come."

On Apr. 14, Gen.G faced T1 in the grand finals of the 2024 LCK Spring Split. It was a tough five-game series, and Gen. G came up on top. Through this win, Gen.G recorded an unprecedented four-peat in the LCK. After the match, Gen.G members joined the media for an interview.

How do you feel about achieving the four-peat by defeating T1?

Head Coach Kim “KIM” Jeong-soo: I'm extremely happy and thrilled to secure the victory after a full series of intense matches. Now, we need to quickly understand the meta of overseas teams to perform well at MSI.

Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon: It feels great to win after going all the way to game 5. It's even more satisfying because it was a hard-fought victory. I aim to understand the meta well for MSI and showcase a strong performance.

Son “Lehends” Si-woo: I'm really relieved that we won. I'll continue to manage my condition well and elevate our performance until MSI.

Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu: Winning the championship again after two and a half years feels great.

Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan: Although we had disappointing results in international tournaments in the past, I'll put in more effort this time to bring back better results.

Kim “Kiin” Gi-in: It feels amazing to win the championship for the first time after becoming a pro player for such a long time. I believe that first time is the hardest, so I’ll try to keep the momentum up and win MSI as well.

On media day, you mentioned organizing the champion tier differently from others. How did you end up picking Annie and Kha’Zix?

KIM: Canyon mentioned that Kha’Zix is good against Xin Zhao. About Annie, Lehends suggested that it’s good in the laning phase when Lulu is banned.

(To Lehends) You showed a good performance in the finals. Why did you choose Annie again?

Lehends: I didn't perform well against Hanwha Life Esports. Thanks to the advice from Chovy and the coach, I was able to make bold decisions. I gave a lot of thought to whether or not to play Annie again, but I’m happy that the results are good.

(To Canyon) What drove you to the championship?

Canyon: It feels great to win after a long time. If I were to name a driving force, it would be competitiveness. Losing makes me very frustrated. As a pro gamer, it's natural.

There's a meme that says, "Chovy's hair waves get wider when the game gets tough." How tough was it today?

Chovy: Today, the atmosphere was so heated that it was difficult to play the game without opening up my forehead [Laughs]. And there's a saying that if you open your forehead, luck will come.

(To Kiin) Rumor has it that you were in a bad condition today.

Kiin: It was just a slight sore throat and fever. It didn't significantly impact the game.

(To Peyz) The bottom lane fight was said to be crucial. In game 3, you gave up Lucian-Nami, but in the next game, you switched. How was the situation?

Peyz: We're confident playing the Lucian-Nami matchup. Although game 4 was a bit tough, we believed that we could win if we swapped lanes and played well.

(To Kiin) How was it facing Zeus?

Kiin: After game 1, I thought it would be easy, but it was tough until the end, so I didn't let my guard down.

(To Chovy) Your Corki bomb delivery initiation was impressive. How was it?

Chovy: I had Valkyrie ready and aimed for Lucian. I thought we would win the teamfight if we took down Lucian, so I went in.

(To KIM) What feedback did you have after losing games 2 and 3?

KIM: We talked a lot about the bottom lane situation. I thought there were mistakes due to being tense in such a big match. I usually encourage them to be bold, but we gave feedback on those aspects. Also, I discussed a lot with Canyon about whether to ban Xin Zhao.

(To Kiin) You've experienced everything from first place to last place. Do you have any words for growing prospects?

Kiin: If you have faith in yourself, good days will come.

Any last comments?

KIM: I'm really happy that our hard work paid off in the end, and I'm grateful to the fans who cheered us on.

Lehends: Everyone worked really hard, and I hope we continue to achieve good results in the matches to come.

Peyz: I want to thank all the players for their hard work.

Chovy: I want to convey my appreciation to the hardworking players, coaching staff, and the office.

Canyon: We worked really hard, and I hope we can come back stronger after some rest.

Kiin: I'm happy with the good results, and I hope we can achieve good results in MSI, too.
