NHL team Los Angeles Kings hosted an Esports Night on the night of a home game against the Ottawa Senators. Overwatch League team Los Angeles Valiant were honorary guests, with players sitting close to the ice for the game as well as participating in a series of pre-game and post-game festivities.

The Immortals OWL franchise sent the majority of its roster to the Staples Center, including stars Indy "Space" Halpern and Scott "Custa" Kennedy. Space took over the LA Valiant Instagram for the duration of the game and stole the show on the jumbotron. Custa, composed as ever, appeared in a post-game interview on Fox Sports West to provide more visibility to the developing world of North American esports.

Both the LA Kings  and LA Valiant also did plenty of pre-coverage for the event. Players were asked for their [admittedly limited] knowledge of each others' profession in short vlog clips released leading up to the event, and LA Valiant x LA Kings hats were sold by LA Kings Care.

Fans attending the game in Valiant attire were also given goodies by the Valiant for showing their support on one of the biggest venues to feature Overwatch League stars in the scene's early phases. The Valiant were also introduced as special guests during a break in the action on the jumbotron.

While the victory on the ice went to the Senators, fans of the LA Kings walked away with a better understanding of esports. The legitimization of alternative forms of competition to conventional sports communities is an important step in the growth of North American esports, and the LA Valiant continue to put themselves at the frontier of the conversation.
