Head Coach KyKy and DPS player Rascal released from Dallas Fuel

On April 15th, the Dallas Fuel announced via its official website that head coach Kyle “KyKy” Souder and DPS player Dong-jun “Rascal” Kim have been released from the team.

KyKy has been coaching the players in the Dallas Fuel since they were members of Team EnVyUs. As KyKy will be leaving the position, assistant coach Emanuel “Peak” Uzoni has been assigned as an interim head coach. The Dallas Fuel also assigned Min-Kyu “Vol’Jin” Kang, the former coach of Meta Gaming, to the coaching staff.

Rascal has transferred to Dallas from the London Spitfire and played for the team in many matches. However, he only played in two matches in Stage 3.

Mike Rufail, the owner of Dallas Fuel, commented on the release of KyKy, saying that “We will always appreciate Kyle’s commitment to this organization. He is a true competitor who coached our team through a great run and a Contenders championship; unfortunately, we have not replicated that championship level of success in the Overwatch League this season. While we recognize many of the challenges Kyle faced with the Dallas Fuel were beyond his control, there comes a time when change is necessary for the team to move forward and we felt that time is now,”.

Regarding Rascal’s release, Mike Rufail added that “We had hoped that Rascal could add flexibility to our DPS lineup on the team this season. Unfortunately, his commitment to the team did not meet our expectations and his unwillingness to communicate with the team while playing in recent matches became a large distraction.”

This big roster change will likely affect Dallas Fuel during the rest of the Overwatch League. The Dallas Fuel revealed that they are negotiating with many candidates for head coach, and will announce the new head coach in the near future.
