New OWL team revealed: the Houston Outlaws embrace their cowboy roots

RELATED: Dallas Fuel and Shanghai Dragons rosters confirmed

Although savvy Overwatch fans may have been aware of rumors speculating Houston's team name in advance, the rest of us are hearing about the Outlaws for the first time today. To no one's surprise the gunslinger McCree was chosen to show off the team's OpTic inspired uniform colors and, even though the season hasn't started, it's safe to say the Texas rivalry between Dallas Fuel has officially begun.

Especially among FPS fans, OpTic gaming is a big name in NA esports and their entrance into competitive Overwatch is one filled with potential. With strong players like Coolmatt, LiNkzr, Bani, Mendokusaii, Clockwork and more, the Houston Outlaws have a promising roster that already warrants a level of expectation going into the first season.

▲ JAKE, most known for his success on the US OW World Cup team, is now one of Houston Outlaw's most popular players.

The official press release describes the organization's motivations for using such iconic cowboy imagery with a not-so-traditional color palette:

"Texas is famous for its hardy, self-reliant cowboy culture, where people live by their own rules. The team name references this rebellious streak, and the star, longhorn skull, and twin revolvers in the team logo are also emblematic of the Lone Star State. Last but not least, the green in the team's colors is a signature shade for Outlaws parent organization OpTic Gaming, whose rabid fans are collectively known as "the Green Wall."

You can follow the team on Twitter @OutlawsOW and on all other social media by the same name. While not populated right now, the teams FacebookInstagramTwitch, and YouTube will likely be peppered with content as the season draws nearer.
