6 explosive Junkrat plays that prove luck and skill go hand in hand

Junkrat is something of a muse for me. There’s something truly cathartic about spamming explosives, launching yourself through the skies, and taking people out with you. But to get the most out of Junkrat, you have to be just a little crazy yourself and have a pinch of luck. These six people know what I mean.

If at first, you don’t succeed, blow it up again!

1. Junkrat channels his inner Pharah and becomes an aerial flanker.

Junkrat uses his handy concussion mines to soar gracefully through the air like a rocket propelled lunatic. He lands right into the backline of the enemy team and wastes no team tearing them apart with traps and bombs. He finishes the job with a Zarya-seeking rip tire and pauses to reflect on the terror he has wrought.

2. Late to the party, no kills to his name, the only thing to do is rip tire.

Sometimes your contribution to a team fight is… minimal to say the least, and this Junkrat knows that pain all too well. Disheartened by his lack of stats, he pulls his rip tire and hopes beyond hope that some poor fool will wander by. The result is better than he could’ve ever hoped. A Mercy zooms past, hoping to resurrect her fallen allies, but Junkrat never gives her the chance.

3. Junkrat gives his life to the cause.

When they’re on the other team, teleporters are just the worst. But what’s a better counter than a crazed Australian loaded with blasting power and criminal intent? Nothing. Nothing is a better counter. Junkrat hops into the room literally exploding with joy at the thought of disrupting the other team. Disrupt, he does, taking out three heroes and eventually the teleporter itself.

4. McCree gets smacked down by the even higher noon.

Some decent scrapping around the point goes on at the start of the clip. A few good grenade hits, some solid posturing, but nothing mind blowing. That is, until Junkrat hears the distinctive sound of a McCree ult. Literally leaping into action, he launches himself far into the air, well out of the reach of McCree’s ult. A solid smack with explosives and the threat of McCree is no more.

5.
Everything in the flank gets blasted to bits.

Choke points, people grouping up, and ignoring damage sources are all the worst possible things against a Junkrat. So what happens when all three are combined at once? Well, whatever he’s against gets blown to pieces. In this case, that means four heroes, a turret, and a teleporter. Not too shabby there, Junkrat.

6. Junkrat finds new purpose in defending the payload.

I’m fully convinced that the most beautiful thing in Overwatch is a concussion mine blasting someone in the air, and Junkrat directly hitting them with a grenade. This clip is just a barrage of good, clean, skillful Junkrat play and, honestly, it makes me so happy to see such an underplayed character doing so well.

Bonus Clip: When emoting goes wrong.

While not exactly a… high skilled clip, I would be kicking myself for days if I didn’t include it somehow. When I first saw it, I audibly let out a hearty chuckle and I hope you did too.
