
Voice actress Wakana Yamazaki, famous for her role as Ran Mouri in 'Detective Conan', passed away on April 18 at the age of 61.
Aoni Production announced the news of her passing today (the 15th). The agency stated that Yamazaki had suspended her activities due to health issues on February 16 and passed away while recuperating. In accordance with the wishes of the bereaved family, a private funeral was held.
Since her debut in 1990 as Ran Tenjinbayashi in 'Emergency Rescue Saber Kids', Yamazaki had been active in various works for approximately 36 years. She is best known for her 30-year tenure as the voice of Ran Mouri in 'Detective Conan', a role she held until her health declined. Beyond animation, she was also active in video games, voicing characters such as Ayane in the 'Dead or Alive' series, Dienne in 'Goddess of Victory: Nikke', and Kei Nagase in 'Ace Combat'.
Upon hearing the news, the production team of the "Detective Conan" anime paid tribute to her via their official social media channels. Original author Gosho Aoyama expressed his deep sorrow, stating, "It is incredibly sad that I will no longer be able to hear that reassuring, gentle voice that was always there by my side." Production teams from other works she participated in, including "Goddess of Victory: Nikke", also shared tributes on their official social media accounts.
