NEXPACE, a blockchain subsidiary of Nexon, is introducing 'Action Modules'—a Web3 ecosystem expansion architecture—to the 'MapleStory Universe.' These modules provide pre-verified essential functions, such as login and item trading, to enhance development efficiency and security for creators.

On the 3rd, Ryu Gi-hyeok, Head of Blockchain at NEXPACE, outlined strategies for overcoming security and scalability bottlenecks in Web3 environments via a Medium blog post, based on his presentation at the Nexon Developers Conference (NDC 2026).
While blockchain gaming ecosystems aim to provide an environment where external creators can produce content without restrictions, they face the risk of user assets being stolen through malicious code. To prevent this, NEXPACE previously manually audited every project during the early development phase, which limited the speed of ecosystem expansion in exchange for security.
"Over the past five years of building projects, we have faced a fundamental dilemma: how to protect users while granting freedom to the community," Ryu stated.
NEXPACE devised the 'Action Module' system to overcome these bottlenecks. Moving away from the traditional method where creators write smart contracts from scratch and undergo centralized manual audits, the company now provides plug-and-play modules with pre-verified essential functions like login, item trading, and payments.
The principle is identical to how Apple or Google provide secure APIs to third-party apps on smartphone operating systems rather than exposing core code. Creators can now launch their own minigames or community applications in a short time without wasting resources on security audits.
NEXPACE also shared updates on infrastructure built to lower barriers to entry for users. The company has adopted a structure that fully covers network fees (gas fees), a major hurdle for Web3 gaming. Users can access games with a single click, just like Web2 games, without needing to manage wallets or pay transaction fees.
Many Web3 projects in the global gaming market have suffered from security vulnerabilities and user churn due to open network structures. As Nexon leverages its flagship IP, 'MapleStory,' it has maintained a closed environment that prioritizes regulatory compliance (KYC, AML) and user protection over indiscriminate openness. This architectural shift is seen as a compromise to maintain internal security control while driving the expansion of a community-led ecosystem.
"The best infrastructure is one where users are unaware of the technology, serving as a foundation that drives the organic growth of the ecosystem," Ryu emphasized. "The richness of the world built by the community will be the true measure of our success."
