Global game publishing platform company VALOFE (331,520, CEO Shin Jae-myung) officially announced on the 3rd that it is working on a relaunch project for 'Master of Fantasy,' a 2D side-scrolling MMORPG that ended its service in September 2010.
'Master of Fantasy,' which launched in 2006, built a dedicated fanbase with its unique systems, compelling story, and high-quality illustrations and music. Once a title that stood shoulder-to-shoulder with popular RPGs, it unfortunately ceased operations due to management issues, yet fans have consistently called for its revival ever since.
This project is particularly significant as it represents the culmination of VALOFE's years of experience in republishing numerous IPs. The company explained that it has carefully analyzed past user feedback and incorporated it into its development and operational strategy, aiming to 'create a proper version of Master of Fantasy.' The goal is not merely to restore the IP, but to elevate both its quality and operational reliability.
The most notable change in this project is a complete overhaul of the technical infrastructure. The title will not only preserve the original's unique gameplay, charm, and 2D side-scrolling MMORPG identity, but is also being ported from its original proprietary engine to the modern 'Unreal Engine 5.8.' The project aims to enhance overall quality, including graphics and visual effects, while staying true to the original feel. Furthermore, VALOFE plans to support cross-platform play to ensure accessibility anytime, anywhere, and is building a development environment with the global market in mind. The company has opened an official community via the open community platform 'Orvvit' to engage with users, and plans to disclose further details, such as release schedules and service regions, as development progresses.
A VALOFE representative stated, "We believe our mission is to properly complete a masterpiece that disappeared before its time. We intend to preserve the original's unique charm and identity while adding a modern touch and new fun, reviving 'Master of Fantasy' in an evolved form that appeals to both existing and new users."
VALOFE explained that it is currently pursuing multiple new development projects based on various IPs, diversifying its business structure from a publishing-centric model to one focused on development and IP, with this relaunch serving as a key part of that strategy.
