Denmark-based Ghost Ship Games and Coffee Stain Publishing launched the cooperative FPS roguelite 'Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core' on Steam Early Access on May 21.
'Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core' is a roguelite spin-off set in the 'Deep Rock Galactic' universe. The game takes place during the 'Grayout' crisis that has engulfed the planet Hoxxes IV. Underground mines used for extracting Expenite have been cut off from headquarters, and players are deployed as part of the 'Reclaimer,' an elite dwarven security unit. The goal is to breach the Grayout barrier and close the Rift Gates deep within the mines.
The Early Access version features five classes: Guardian, Spotter, Falconer, Slicer, and Retcon. Each class possesses unique specialized abilities, and players can upgrade tools, weapons, and skills during missions to create different builds for every run. Some upgrades are offered as team-shared choices, while 'Risk Vectors'—which balance rewards against increased difficulty—are decided by a team vote. The robotic assistant ELLIS is responsible for converting collected Expenite into upgrades.
Missions are time-limited, and 'Gauntlet' missions are available for players seeking high-intensity challenges. There are also progression elements outside of individual runs. Completing Intel tasks unlocks higher Clearance Levels at the Mission Terminal, while the hub, the Ramrod, features terminals for upgrades, pickaxes, and loadouts, allowing players to improve both their appearance and tactical capabilities.
Deep within Hoxxes IV, players will encounter new enemies alongside familiar creatures, including the Rafkan, Shatterclaw, and Corespawn. The swarms of Corespawn pouring out of the Rift Gates, in particular, serve to increase the threat level of every run. Between missions, players can regroup at the 'RV-09 Ramrod,' a space hub managed by the AI Omega, and prepare for the next operation by completing fitness challenges at 'Omega's Bar & Fitness.'
Mikkel Martin Pedersen, co-founder and game director at Ghost Ship Games, stated, "With this title, we wanted players to experience Hoxxes IV in a completely different way than before," adding, "We look forward to the moment players discover another side of the 'Company.'"
