Electronic Arts (EA) has finalized its acquisition by a consortium consisting of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. With this move, EA transitions to a private company, ending its approximately 37-year run on the U.S. NASDAQ since its 1990 listing.

On August 4, 2026 (local time), EA announced the official completion of the acquisition agreement, marking a new turning point to lead the future of the entertainment market alongside partners with long-term capital and industry-specific expertise. This transaction represents the largest leveraged buyout (LBO) in private equity history and the second-largest deal in the history of the gaming industry, valued at $55 billion (approximately ₩78 trillion).

The acquisition was pursued following its initial announcement on September 29, 2025, and received final approval from shareholders at an extraordinary general meeting on December 22 of the same year. With the acquisition process fully closed, trading of EA shares on the NASDAQ has been suspended, and the company has entered the official delisting process. Shareholders holding common stock as of the record date will receive $210 in cash per share.

Among the members of the consortium leading the acquisition, the PIF is a key investor that has held a minority stake in EA for over five years. The consortium plans to leverage its partnership with EA's management to increase investment in artificial intelligence (AI) technology for game development and user experience enhancement, while also pursuing the expansion of global sports and gaming franchise IPs.
