During its Q2 earnings call, Kakao Games announced a strategic reorganization of its upcoming game lineup, aiming to solidify a foundation for stable growth. The company plans to boost the competitiveness of its core gaming business and accelerate its expansion into domestic and international markets by rolling out a diverse range of new titles across various genres and platforms.
The first title for the second half of the year is the 2.5D MMORPG 'World of Dokkaebi,' currently under development by Supercat. The company is focusing on service preparations, with pre-registration starting in August and an official launch targeted for October. The game features a unique world and atmosphere, blending distinctive, retro-inspired graphics with themes rooted in Korean culture. It aims to offer a distinct player experience compared to existing MMORPGs, highlighted by a highly flexible skill deck-building system and cooperative content centered around clans.
The new MMORPG 'Odin Q: Valkyrie Skoll,' developed by Lionheart Studio, has been rescheduled for release in January 2027 to better align with market conditions. As a successor expanding the 'Odin' IP globally, the game features a world based on the Norse mythic 'Edda,' top-tier Unreal Engine 5 graphics, and a full-3D seamless open world with a quarter-view perspective. The plan is to enhance the core immersion of the MMORPG genre by emphasizing growth and cooperative combat within a highly free-form environment.
In the fourth quarter of this year, the company will launch several titles targeting the global market. 'ArcheAge Chronicles,' an online action RPG developed and self-published by XLGAMES, inherits the original 'ArcheAge' world while adopting intuitive combat flows and console-friendly controls to appeal to global action RPG players. 'Dungeon Arise,' a strategy adventure RPG by TinyFun Games, is being developed to offer accessibility for casual one-handed play while incorporating deep character progression elements.
The mid-to-long-term lineup is also robust. 2027 will see the release of 'God Save Birmingham,' an open world zombie survival simulator by Ocean Drive Studio, and 'Chrono Odyssey,' a AAA action RPG that combines a vast open world with a time-manipulation system. Lionheart Studio is also preparing new titles with distinct identities, including the subculture-themed raising simulation 'Project C' (tentative) and the third-person PVP shooter 'Project S' (tentative).
Kakao Games is also expanding its lineup through publishing agreements. The company is signing new deals with promising developers to prepare titles across various genres and platforms. The strategy is to secure high-quality works from competitive developers to create growth momentum driven by new releases and build a stable portfolio.
A key achievement is the global publishing agreement with XLGAMES for the MMORPG 'ArcheAge S: Straits of Freedom.' This title inherits the core values and identity of the existing 'ArcheAge' IP while reinterpreting them to fit modern gaming trends. With this, the company continues to strengthen its core IP competitiveness by expanding the original franchise across multiple platforms and genres, including 'ArcheAge War,' 'ArcheAge Chronicles,' and 'ArcheAge S.
The company has also reunited with Kong Studios. The goal is to replicate past successes in the genre by launching the collectible action RPG 'Guardian Maiden' globally. Featuring dot-art graphics, the game depicts an epic fantasy narrative set on a vast continent where various races coexist, following a hero and a saintess who partner up to confront evil forces.
Furthermore, the company is exploring game development and service opportunities using webtoon IPs in collaboration with The Grim Entertainment, a webtoon production company with a strong fan base both domestically and abroad. The direction is to lay the groundwork for mid-to-long-term growth by consistently securing new IPs with global competitiveness alongside the release of already announced titles.
A Kakao Games representative stated, "We have reorganized our new game lineup by carefully reviewing the release schedules and service strategies of our major projects. Starting in the second half of the year, we will sequentially introduce key new titles and create new growth momentum in domestic and international markets based on a solid portfolio."
