Solo developer Zoroarts, which gained cult popularity with 'Paddle Paddle Paddle'—a two-player rowing game that builds frustration rather than cooperation—is back with another friendship-testing co-op game. This time, instead of oars, the mechanic is your voice.
German solo studio Zoroarts and publisher Assemble Entertainment have announced 'CAAAHR!', a co-op racing game, and released its trailer. The core of CAAAHR! is the voice, which serves as both the engine and the controller. Two players operate a single vehicle: one player controls the speed by shouting into their microphone—the louder they yell, the faster the car goes. The other player handles steering and triggers jumps, boosts, and special abilities through short shouts or sounds.
The game requires both players to be shouting simultaneously. However, volume alone isn't enough; if the speed, steering, or timing of ability activation is even slightly off, the vehicle will veer off-course or explode. The developers noted that they intentionally designed the game to turn the resulting shouting, mistakes, and blame-shifting into part of the fun. Essentially, the core gameplay revolves around the process of two players trying to synchronize their voices and coordinate their efforts.
This design philosophy stems from the success of Zoroarts' previous title, Paddle Paddle Paddle. While that game featured simple rowing mechanics, its two-player co-op implementation made it a massive hit. As a concept-driven solo project, it sold 100k copies within ten weeks of launch and has now reached 240k units sold. Zoroarts stated that their success came from 'trusting a simple game idea and resisting feature creep,' and that CAAAHR! will follow the same philosophy.
The game supports both local and online co-op, and a single-player mode is also available for those looking to take on the challenge alone.
Zoroarts, a solo studio run by 23-year-old German indie developer Matteo Kovic, is developing CAAAHR! with a target release on Steam in the summer of 2026. A demo is also scheduled to be released during the June 2026 edition of Steam Next Fest.
