Take-Two Interactive has commented on the pre-order performance of 'Grand Theft Auto 6' for the first time. During the company's Q1 fiscal year 2027 earnings call on the 7th (local time), Take-Two Interactive Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that the volume of pre-orders is unprecedented.

Chairman Zelnick remarked, "The level of pre-orders is unprecedented and extraordinary, and we are very grateful." However, he drew a line at disclosing specific sales units. He added a caveat that since not a single unit has been sold yet and pre-orders can be canceled, it is impossible to know how these figures will translate into actual sales.
During the same call, he was asked for his thoughts on Sony's decision to cease production of physical discs for new PS5 games starting in 2028. Chairman Zelnick declined to comment on Sony's decision directly, shifting the focus to his own company's situation. He noted that "well over 90% of our business is distributed digitally," adding that for major games, physical discs hold little meaning for consumers. He specifically asked listeners to note that he was referring to 'discs' in this context.
He cited online authentication as the primary reason. Since most games require online registration anyway, he explained that it is more convenient for users to simply download the game while already connected. He clarified that this does not mean they are abandoning physical media entirely. He mentioned that they would continue to release physical editions occasionally, much like vinyl records in the music industry, but suggested that in most other cases, physical media would be meaningless.
'Grand Theft Auto 6' is set to launch on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The package version will include a download code instead of a physical disc.
