It has been confirmed that Red Ginko Games is seeking to secure the trademark for 'Dawn of the Frozen Land.' The company filed the trademark application with the Korean Intellectual Property Office on the 20th.

Regarding this, PD Kim Tae-gon of Red Zingo Games stated, "I am in the process of securing trademarks for projects I was previously associated with, and whether these products are developed will depend on future circumstances. It is difficult to confirm the development status or timeline for any specific product at this time."
However, the company stated that it is too early to conclude that this filing is a precursor to full-scale development, as future plans remain fluid and will depend on the performance of their currently live service title, 'Imjin War: Joseon's Counterattack.'
The company is seeking a trademark, not a copyright. Producer Kim explained that "copyright covers elements like source code, scenarios, detailed planning, and graphics," whereas this filing specifically pertains to "the right to use the name 'Dawn of the Frozen Land.'"
'Dawn of the Frozen Land' was an action RPG developed by JoyOn in 2002, conceived as a spin-off of the 'Imjin-rok' series. Set during the final stages of the Second Japanese Invasion of Korea, the game featured an Eastern fantasy world where the Joseon king Seonjo’s royal guard, Seo Hwi, infiltrates mainland Japan to stop Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Hideyoshi, having sold his soul to the Asmodae deity Great Tengu, summons demons across Joseon to steal the Three Sacred Treasures passed down since the Dangun era.
According to production notes by former JoyOn development team leader Ahn Hyung-in, archived at the Korea Creative Content Agency, the project was a major undertaking that benchmarked the data structure of Diablo while incorporating proprietary technology, such as a 256-color variable palette system.
This trademark filing is part of a company-wide effort to organize and secure the rights to titles from projects that Producer Kim Tae-gon previously worked on.
While a remake of 'Dawn of the Frozen Land' has not been confirmed, the move is seen as a step in Red Ginko Games' strategy to turn the 'Imjin-rok' series IP—associated with Producer Kim—into company assets, leaving the door open for potential use depending on the future trajectory of 'Imjin War: Joseon's Counterattack.'
