Kakao Games announced on the 15th that it is hosting a user-participatory, game-linked donation event titled Return, Han River Otters! in its mobile puzzle game, Friends Popcorn, in celebration of Environment Month in June.
Return, Han River Otters! is an event where Kakao Games will donate ₩30 million to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) if the total number of hearts used by Friends Popcorn players reaches 10 million between June 15 and June 30. Players can participate in this environmental donation simply by using hearts while playing the game.
The donation to the WWF will be used for habitat conservation efforts for otters, which are designated as Natural Monument No. 330 and a Class I endangered species. While otters are a key indicator species that demonstrate the stable coexistence of various organisms in river ecosystems, their survival is currently threatened by water pollution and habitat destruction.
Kakao Games has also prepared rewards to encourage user participation during the event. Whenever the cumulative number of hearts used reaches 1 million, 3 million, 7.77 million, and 10 million, all players will receive in-game items such as hearts and a 30-minute Golden Ryan pass.
Seong Yeong-hwan, Business Division Head at Kakao Games, stated, In celebration of Environment Month in June, we have organized this event to share the significance of biodiversity conservation with Friends Popcorn players and join in efforts to protect otter habitats. We will continue to carry out various campaigns so that our users can naturally participate in creating social value while enjoying our games.
Meanwhile, Kakao Games has been running biodiversity conservation campaigns to mark Environment Month for four consecutive years since 2023. Following campaigns for polar bears in 2023, honeybees in 2024, and black-faced spoonbills in 2025, the company is continuing its efforts this year with a donation drive for otter habitat conservation, contributing to the spread of social value through user-participatory ESG campaigns.
