The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Choi Hwi-young) announced on the 4th that it has appointed seven new members to the Game Rating and Administration Committee.

The appointments were made following the expiration of the previous members' terms, and the new members will serve three-year terms. The newly appointed committee members are experts from diverse fields, including law, academia, and the industry.

The Ministry explained that it actively reflected the members' multifaceted expertise and field experience to effectively respond to the rapidly changing policy environment of the game industry. In particular, it prioritized a 'sense of balance' regarding not only an understanding of the game industry but also youth protection and the safeguarding of user rights as the primary criteria for selection.

The Game Rating and Administration Committee, which consists of nine members in total, is the body responsible for deliberating on key matters concerning the rating and post-management of game products. Under the 'Game Industry Promotion Act,' members are appointed by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism following recommendations from organizations in relevant fields such as culture and arts, youth affairs, law, and education.

Minister Choi Hwi-young emphasized, "Games are a representative cultural content enjoyed by the public in their daily lives and a key export strategy industry that drives the global expansion of 'K-Culture.'"

Minister Choi added, "I hope that, based on the outstanding expertise and field experience of the newly appointed members, the Game Rating and Administration Committee will strive to balance user protection with industry promotion, establishing itself as an institution firmly trusted by both the public and the industry."
