As the sun rises over Southern California, Overwatch fans in Anaheim and across the nation alike can breathe easy. It wasn't a dream: Team USA won the 2019 Overwatch World Cup.

In front of a packed crowd at BlizzCon 2019, Team USA exorcised its demons against Team South Korea, defeating them once in Group A on the way to a perfect Group Stage, and again in the Semifinals by a score of 3-1.

In the three previous Overwatch World Cups, the United States met its end in the Quarterfinals every time; twice to South Korea and to Team UK in 2018. Team USA rode its momentum from eradicating Team SK into the Grand Finals, where it promptly swept Team China 3-0 to win OWWC 2019. The two-man powercell of DPS Jay "sinatraa" Won and Tank Matthew "Super" DeLisi of San Francisco Shock replicated its dynamic 1-2 punch propulsion that led Shock to the 2019 OWL championship.

Throughout the entirety of OWWC 2019, Team USA only dropped a single map to South Korea in the Semifinals for a total map score of 18-1 in its undefeated run. Since SF Shock won the 2019 Overwatch League Grand Finals on a 20-map run, sinatraa and Super have won 38 of their last 39 maps played. Super showcased new levels of proficiency on Orisa, and sinatraa looked every bit deserving of the 2019 Overwatch League MVP award, but one player in particular stood out for USA.

Corey in the House

Washington Justice DPS Corey "Corey" Nigra is a rising star in the Overwatch League. The rookie carried Justice after the role lock before Stage 4 of OWL 2019 with his traditional DPS play, specifically looking superb on hitscan heroes.

Super and sinatraa were the heart and lungs of the US OWWC team, but Corey utilized the opportunity to make the World Cup his true arrival as a top North American talent. It would have been impressive enough for Corey to have the best individual performance of his career, but to standout amongst the best talent in the world in direct competition with sinatraa of all players?

Cha-ching.

Tomorrow, the community at large will go back to the off-season rumor mill and rip whatever hair they have left out of their head analyzing the trade market, but no matter what jerseys the USA OWWC players will be wearing in the 2020 Overwatch League season, this group has immortalized itself in North American competitive Overwatch history.
