A 2-2-2 composition lock may be implemented for Overwatch League in Stage 4

According to a report by Upcomer, multiple sources inside the Overwatch League have confirmed that a 2-2-2- composition lock would be effective in Stage 4 of the 2019 Overwatch League season.

"2-2-2" is in reference to a hard-line lock on compositions in Overwatch, specifically two DPS heroes, two Tank heroes, and two Support heroes. Currently, teams can run compositions with any combination of hero archetypes. The GOATS meta, which consists of compositions of three tanks and three supports, has been most prevalent for the entirety of season 2 of OWL.

If confirmed, the lock would come at a peculiar time. Not only is Stage 4 of the regular season the last games before Overwatch League Season 2 Playoffs, but Stage 3 has seen less GOATs play than ever before in 2019. Sombra has risen to prevalence in the meta, and certain teams such as the Los Angeles Valiant and Houston Outlaws have been deciding to follow in the footsteps of Chengdu Hunters and play to their respective strengths with more DPS-heavy compositions.

The Overwatch League Stage 2 Playoffs begin only six weeks after Stage 4, so if the change is going to go into effect as the report says, teams could find themselves scrambling to adjust to the rigidity of the new compositional parameters.
