The 2018 Arena of Valor Finals were held on the 28th of July, at LA Hollywood TCL Chinese Theater. The tournament held a $550K prize pool with the winner taking $200K. Participating countries were Korea, China, NA, Thailand etc.
The Arena of Valor is a highly popular mobile game in China, also known as Honor of King (Wangzhe Rongyao), is a MOBA game similar to League of Legends. It’s the first year they’ve set foot in the NA market. Due to that, the World Cup finals of the game was held in the NA instead of their biggest market, China.
Tencent invited twelve countries for a boot camp in Thailand from June 11th to 24th and brought the level of the tournament up.
As it was the first global competition, it wasn’t easy to predict which country will do well, or which player will be the best, but the results of the competition again proved that Korea was the strongest country for esports.
It wasn’t an easy championship for Korea. Thailand succeeded to bother Korea all the way. Korea lost to Thailand in the semifinals 0-3, but they were able to have revenge at the finals with a score of 4-3. In the end, Korea lifted the championship trophy.
