Today’s cartoon is about the mishmashed leaderboards worldwide.
In major LoL leagues, there have always been firm favorites that stayed near the top of the leaderboard: SKT T1 of the LCK, TSM of the NA LCS and G2 of the EU LCS. Although it hasn’t always been the same in China, RNG played that role in the LPL. However, these teams seem somewhat out of their element. All the teams listed above are having a hard time; they’re not too far from the bottom of the leaderboard, all at the same time.
Meanwhile, several teams who used to place within the lower half are performing well, which is making the favorites’ poor performances stick out even more. Jin Air Green Wings of the LCK is placed 4th and playing well along with ROX Tigers and bbq Olivers. It’s the same in the NA LCS. Echo Fox and Team Liquid are finally reaping the benefits of their investments, and even a new(?) team like 100 Thieves is ranked 3rd. In the EU, Team Roccat and Vitality are rising up as if they’ve forgotten their previous year, and G2 is tied at 8th with H2K. RNG is at 2W 3L and in the lower half, but still doing better than the favorites of other regions.
Of course, it’s still early in the season. Now is when teams gradually adapt to their new rosters and the new meta. We’ll have to see if this trial of fire will burn them down or forge them into proper combatants. With the status quo seemingly on its head and the power gap shutting close, who can rightly say how the league will turn out?
