NextFrame Studio, a small independent developer from Brazil, has released a new trailer for Hell n' Slash, an isometric dark fantasy hack'n'slash roguelike headed to PC. There's no release date yet.
According to a release, the studio sees the game as ‘our take on Hades with some Devil May Cry and God of War thrown in.’ Players control the Hunter, a black-armored warrior with a colossal sword and a crossbow strapped to his arm. An iron grappling hook drags enemies in close.
Roguelikes are built around repeated runs. Each death sends the player back to the start, usually with shuffled rooms and a few permanent upgrades carried over. Dying is part of the plan.
100 cursed chambers
The game's Steam page lists 100 cursed chambers to carve through. NextFrame's press kit splits them across four regions: the Ash Crypts, the Forges of Exile, the Halls of Oaths and the Threshold. Four bosses wait along the way. Each one fights in three phases.
Pacts sealed ‘in wax and blood’ change how the Hunter fights, and the studio says they combine in unexpected ways. Between runs, players return to the Hall of Ashes, a ruined cathedral with five residents.
Then there's the narrator. The Maker, described as a bored god, sits on a throne in that cathedral and comments on every one of the Hunter's deaths. According to the studio, he makes fun of them too. A heavy metal soundtrack backs the fighting.
The trailer is up on NextFrame's YouTube channel. Hell n' Slash is currently listed for Windows on Steam.
The following was sent as a press release to Inven Global.
