The Swiss Stage of the 2026 LoL World Championship (Worlds) has passed its halfway mark. Following three fiercely contested rounds, only Rounds 4 and 5 remain—where survival is on the line. For the LCK, oldest brother Gen.G Esports and youngest sibling Dplus KIA have already secured their places in the quarterfinals with flawless 3-0 records, leaving T1 and Hanwha Life Esports to take the stage in Round 4.
Hanwha Life Esports won MSI and finished as LCK runners-up this year, entering Worlds as one of the strong title favorites. However, defying those expectations, they now face the threat of an early exit in the Swiss Stage. They got off to a strong start by defeating Top Esports (TES) in just 23 minutes in their opening match, but fell to rival Gen.G in Round 2 and suffered an upset against IG in the following match, falling into the 1-2 pool.
Perhaps due to the lingering impact of a completely helpless defeat against Gen.G—a matchup between the top two teams in the power rankings—their performance against IG was even more concerning. A combination of self-destruction driven by uncontrollable aggression—a familiar losing pattern for Hanwha Life Esports—and a decline in individual form resulted in a performance unworthy of one of the LCK's top two teams.
Hanwha Life Esports' opponent in this do-or-die match is G2 Esports. While G2 have also struggled in the Swiss Stage, they remain the undisputed rulers of Europe, coming off an LEC title. With both teams failing to show their true form, the key to victory will be who can stabilize their gameplay first and redefine their tier list to suit the meta.

T1 are now just one victory away from the quarterfinals. A favorable draw saw them pick up two wins by facing CBLOL's LOS in Round 1 and LCP's CFO in Round 3. However, question marks remain over their performance level. In particular, they suffered a painful reverse defeat against their Round 2 opponent, Dplus KIA, revealing a concerning lack of late-game focus.
Their luck continued in the Round 4 draw, avoiding three LPL teams in the 2-1 pool to be matched against Movistar KOI, the lowest-ranked team in the power rankings. Even so, complacency is out of the question. Movistar KOI pulled off a shock victory against BLG in Round 1, and T1 have frequently stumbled against LEC teams in recent international tournaments.
What T1 must avoid is getting caught out needlessly after the laning phase, which creates unnecessary difficulties. Against Dplus KIA, an accumulation of such errors dragged the game into the extreme late stages and allowed a comeback, while against CFO, careless deaths hampered their early-to-mid-game macro execution. With formidable opponents lurking in the 2-loss pool, T1 must secure a clean victory in this match to lock in their spot in the quarterfinals.
