ReLU Games, a studio under KRAFTON, Inc., has rolled out the second major update of the year for MIMESIS to celebrate the first anniversary of its Early Access launch. The core of this update is a new 'Paranoia' system and AI-driven monster enhancements that observe player habits.
MIMESIS is a four-player co-op horror game released in Early Access on Steam on October 27, 2025. According to ReLU Games, global cumulative sales surpassed 2 million copies as of June. Players must collect resources needed to operate a tram alongside teammates while staying vigilant against AI-driven NPC monsters that mimic human appearance, behavior, and voice.
The update's concept, 'OFF THE RAILS', captures both the tram's derailment and the psychological turmoil caused by paranoia. It focuses on expanding scenarios where teammates come to suspect one another during cooperation.
The newly introduced 'Paranoia' is a system that causes players to perceive situations differently depending on their in-game contamination level. Variables arise where monsters appear or strange voices are heard only by players with elevated contamination levels. The monster 'Mimesis' has also been upgraded to react more subtly to surroundings and observe player habits, mimicking human actions even more naturally.
The new map is set on a movie set with a structure that blurs indoor and outdoor boundaries. Upon entering the map, players witness a sequence where the tram crash-lands in an unexpected location. New monsters, scrap items, and service stations have also been added.
Gear and user environment features have also been revamped. The update introduces inventory expansion gear, inter-teammate communication devices, traps, and a redesigned overall game UI. As first-anniversary engagement content, a 'Survival Report' generated based on players' gameplay records has been introduced. Obtaining this report rewards players with a 1st anniversary skin.
MIMESIS won the Excellence Award in Game Design at the CEDEC Awards 2026 hosted by the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference (CEDEC) in Japan last June. ReLU Games noted that the game continues to maintain a "Very Positive" user rating on Steam. Details about the update can be found on the official website, Steam page, and trailer.
