Frontier Developments has announced the Spooktacular Pack, a Halloween-themed downloadable content (DLC) pack for its theme park management game Planet Coaster 2. It is due out on PC, PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Series X|S on October 29th.

According to a release, the pack will cost £14.99/$18.99/€18.99. The base game is required. Its headline feature, Walkthrough Attractions, is a first for Planet Coaster 2; the pack also adds seven rides, more than 700 pieces of spooky scenery (eerie animatronics, monstrous façades, supernatural effects), new audio and three ghostly entertainers. Frontier released an announcement trailer alongside the news.

How Walkthrough Attractions work

Walkthrough Attractions let players build their own haunted houses and scare mazes. Guests explore them on foot. Along the way, they pass animatronics, sound effects and scenery placed by the player, who can toggle how guests react at each point.

Frontier said the feature was designed with the base game's themes (and those of earlier DLC) in mind, so it is not limited to horror. Builds can start from a blueprint on the Frontier Workshop, where players share their creations, or from scratch with the game's piece-by-piece tools. The release calls the attractions ‘the ultimate storytelling tool’.

New rides and ghostly entertainers

Two coasters lead the ride list. Big M's Rides: Spectre is a modular launch coaster with LSM multi-launches (linear synchronous motors, which push trains forward magnetically) and open seating. Jerry St Lauer: Sledge glides over twisting hills at night.

The flat rides are Ballista, a non-inverting swinging gondola, Rumpus Room, a topsy-turvy chamber that turns guests upside down, and Horror Heights, which drops riders back down from a height. Bosetti is a dark ride built around a ghost story. The Huntsman is the other new tracked ride.

The audio set has 29 ambient sounds, more than 90 sound effects and 14 music tracks. Wigglebones, King Ghoster and Queen Scream are the new performers. Each has its own ‘haunting personality’, according to Frontier.

Free Update 12

Free Update 12 arrives alongside the pack. Its main addition is Reaction Points: placeable objects, similar to vista points, that players link to scenery. Players set a radius, then choose how guests react as they pass through it.

The update also adds Photo Stand-In Walls and 25 dirt and grime decals. Bug fixes are included too.
