Valve's new multiplayer game 'Deadlock' has surpassed 260,000 peak concurrent players on Steam, even prior to its official launch. This figure exceeds the all-time record of the company's flagship title, 'Team Fortress 2'.
According to Steam statistics site SteamDB, 'Deadlock' broke its own record on October 9 (UTC) by reaching 262,145 concurrent players.
The previous peak record for 'Team Fortress 2' was 253,997 players, set on July 13, 2023. Compared to the steady seller released in 2007, 'Deadlock' pulled ahead by approximately 8,148 players.
'Deadlock' is still in development and has not been officially released. On its official Steam store page, Valve states that the game is an early build featuring temporary graphics and experimental gameplay elements. Currently, it can only be played through friend invites from existing test participants, with a specific official release date yet to be announced.
On the 29th of last month, Valve shared a development update, explaining that it has been collecting player feedback from early stages to verify the game's core appeal and refine its overall quality. Progression systems, along with hero and hideout customization features, are also under development and subject to change based on future test results.
In addition, the 'City Never Sleeps' update applied on the same day reworked the battlefield and neutral monster visuals while significantly improving the interface, convenience, and accessibility features. Furthermore, following the announcement of six new heroes, Valve added 'Rat King' on the 2nd, 'Baba' on the 6th, and 'Solomon' on the 9th to the battlefield in sequence.
