On Thursday, September 17, the Combat Experience Patch officially went live.
Cancel skills added for all classes! Bind resistance issues resolved!
Here is a breakdown of the universal changes introduced in this update.
Cancel Rush Skills Added to All Classes
MapleStory's Thursday, September 17 patch improved the combat experience for most classes. Among the changes, the addition of cancel skills for double-jump class groups stands out. Following this patch, players can cancel their attacks mid-animation using double jump or rush skills to move. Animation canceling during attacks was previously an advantage unique to teleport classes, but with this update, jump and rush skill classes can now cancel and maneuver much more freely.

Standardized Consecutive Jumps
This patch is another noticeable quality-of-life change for jump-based classes. Jump combos have become more flexible. Previously, only a limited number of class groups could seamlessly combo high jumps + forward jumps, or double jumps + high jumps. With this patch, most jump classes can utilize these jump combos much more freely. However, existing double-jump classes have not been given triple jumps.

Touch Damage Ignore + Slow Added to All Classes
This update introduces a new 5th Job skill: "Erda Permeation". As a brand-new skill, players must unlock and level it up using Matrix Points before using it. It is a toggle skill that applies body contact ignore and a slow debuff to targets upon hitting them while active. Since it operates as a permanent debuff with 100% uptime, players do not need to constantly manage it. This addition makes boss fights like Chosen Seren and Black Mage significantly easier to handle. Erda Permeation also grants an All Stats +10 effect, so leveling it up is highly recommended.

Usability Improvements for Persistent Zone Skills
Field/AOE skills across many classes have also been improved. Previously, when monsters moved out of an installed zone, players suffered direct damage loss, alongside the inconvenience of constantly having to lure enemies into the skill area. With this update, many classes had their zone skills compressed into faster damage bursts or given flexible redeployment, greatly enhancing usability. Additionally, summon skills commonly referred to as Spider in Mirror and Crest of the Solar can no longer be cast during boss fights; instead, they now grant passive Attack Power/Magic ATT bonuses, significantly streamlining gameplay.

Bind Resistance Reduced by 9 Seconds and Erda Nova Changed to Charges
This patch offers a huge tangible benefit for players wearing high Cooldown Reduction (CDR) hats. Previously, Bind skills (incapacitation effects) carried a 90-second resistance window. When players possessed high cooldown reduction, their Bind skill cooldowns would finish before the target's resistance expired, causing Binds to overlap and fail. Reducing the resistance window from 90 seconds to 81 seconds resolves this issue. Furthermore, classes lacking an innate Bind skill used to suffer greatly if they misclicked Erda Nova; with Erda Nova now accumulating up to 2 charges (stacks), misfires are far easier to handle.

Cooldown Display Added for Special Nodes
Many players rely on damage-boosting Special Nodes such as "Fatal Strike". Fatal Strike provides a 4-second buff duration with a 30-second cooldown. However, because there was no dedicated cooldown tracker icon, lining up main burst skills with the node effect was difficult. With this patch displaying Special Node cooldowns, timing key skills with buff windows becomes much easier.

Debuff Streamlining and Key-down Skill Usability Improvements
In addition, the patch streamlined debuff skills and improved the feel of key-down skills. Combined with these quality-of-life adjustments, players have fewer tedious elements to manage, resulting in a noticeably smoother overall gameplay experience.
