Joycity announced on September 16 that it updated content commemorating the 429th anniversary of the Battle of Myeongnyang in 'Imjin War: Joseon's Counterattack,' an MMORPG developed by Red Ginkgo Games.
The update recreates the Battle of Myeongnyang as in-game content, honoring the historic victory won by Admiral Yi Sun-sin with just 12 ships on September 16, 1597 (lunar calendar).
Players can sequentially experience the operation by defeating Japanese forces stationed on land to obtain a 'Map of the Japanese Army,' using it as a clue to infiltrate the Uldolmok base and wipe out anchored Japanese ships. Matchlocks acquired as loot during battle can be exchanged for separate in-game rewards.
Executive Producer Kim Tae-gon, who led the game's development, said, "We wanted to present a differentiated update aligned with the game's identity. We plan to continuously incorporate meaningful historical dates that many people should remember into our game content, including the upcoming Dokdo Day".
To celebrate the update, Joycity is giving all players who log into the game 500 Legendary Yi Sun-sin fragments and 500 Turtle Ship fragments each. Event participants can select rewards from among in-game currencies and items such as Advanced Appointments and Silver Coins.
