It has been reported that Kojima Productions' original IP stealth action game 'PHYSINT', currently in development, has ended its collaboration with Sony (SIE) and newly joined forces with Xbox.
Hideo Kojima, head and main producer of Kojima Productions, shared news regarding the development of 'PHYSINT' today (10th) via his X account. It was Sony that first initiated the end of the collaboration. Kojima stated, "In mid-June of this year, a notice suddenly arrived from SIE stating that the 'PHYSINT' project in production was canceled," revealing that the partnership ended due to Sony's notification.
However, the development of 'PHYSINT' itself has not been halted. Regarding this, Kojima explained, "'PHYSINT' was a precious project to both me and Kojima Productions, and to ensure it continued no matter what, we have been endlessly searching for a 'new partner' over the past three months."
He added that after seeking input from people in various fields and conducting negotiations, they decided to partner with Xbox. He stated, "We have teamed up with Xbox again as a partner with whom we can share a vision for the future," and added, "Production on the next-generation action-espionage game 'PHYSINT' is continuing, so please do not worry."
'PHYSINT' is Kojima Productions' new title that was first revealed alongside a short interview during State of Play on January 31, 2024. In that interview, Kojima stated that full-scale development would begin after the release of 'Death Stranding 2'. Given that 'Death Stranding 2' was released on PS5 on June 26, 2025, full development has been underway for about a year.
Indeed, on September 23, 2025, through the Kojima Productions 10th anniversary stream, the official poster art and casting details featuring Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe were unveiled, signaling the start of full-scale development.
With this decision, 'PHYSINT' shifts direction from its initial collaboration with Sony to a new partnership with Xbox. Meanwhile, as Kojima Productions is already co-developing the horror game 'OD' with Xbox, the two companies are expected to further expand their collaboration through 'PHYSINT'.
