SNK has unveiled 'METAL SLUG ULTIMATE COLLECTION', bringing together past entries to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 'Metal Slug' series.
SNK officially showcased 'METAL SLUG ULTIMATE COLLECTION' for the first time during Nintendo Direct on September 9. Commemorating the 30th anniversary of 'Metal Slug', which debuted in 1996, the title packs nine major entries from the series alongside a previously unreleased location test version—a total of 10 titles—into a single package.
The featured games are 'Metal Slug', 'Metal Slug 2', 'Metal Slug X', 'Metal Slug 3', 'Metal Slug 4', 'Metal Slug 5', 'Metal Slug Advance', 'Metal Slug 6', and 'Metal Slug 7'. In addition, the location test version of the original 'Metal Slug' is included.
The location test version stands out as a particularly noteworthy piece of content in this collection. Presented strictly for testing purposes prior to the game's official arcade launch, it was never released commercially, making it difficult for everyday players to experience. SNK is officially incorporating this version for the first time through this collection.
Beyond the main games, bonus content looking back across the franchise is also included. A gallery will allow players to enjoy artwork and music from past titles, while 'Combat School' from previous releases returns with expanded content. Online multiplayer and online leaderboards are also supported.
This announcement serves as an extension of the 'Metal Slug' 30th anniversary project revealed by SNK last April. At that time, SNK displayed the phrases 'MISSION REBOOT' and 'A NEW MISSION AWAITS' at the end of a commemorative 30th anniversary video, stating that it would pursue multiple projects, including the development of new games, aimed at reigniting and rebooting the franchise.
'Metal Slug' is a side-scrolling action shooter first released for arcade MVS on April 19, 1996. Driven by its signature detailed pixel art, exhilarating shooting, and humorous direction, it established itself as one of SNK's flagship franchises and celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
'METAL SLUG ULTIMATE COLLECTION' is scheduled for release in 2027 on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). A specific release date has not yet been announced.
