'Mewgenics', a roguelike SRPG by developer Edmund McMillen—renowned for Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac—has announced official Korean language support across all platforms alongside its upcoming console release.
On September 6, Edmund McMillen shared details via the Steam page regarding a new update and the console version launch for Mewgenics scheduled for September 8. First, through the September 8 update, the game will officially support Korean, Japanese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese. This allows Korean players to enjoy the game natively in Korean without language barriers.
He also announced that the console release previously mentioned at gamescom will arrive as scheduled on September 8 without delay. The console version will support PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, with Steam account cross-linking supported across all platforms. Rather than starting over from scratch after purchasing a console version, players can directly download their existing Steam cloud save data to play, or upload data played on console back to the cloud. In addition to controller controls, all three platforms support keyboard and mouse input, alongside broad support for device-specific features such as the Joy-Con 2 mouse and touchscreen controls on Nintendo Switch 2, and the DualSense touchpad on PS5.
A future update roadmap was also detailed. The development team is preparing a small free update featuring new playstyles and unlockable items, with further details to be revealed later this year. In addition, full-scale development has officially begun on the first paid DLC.
Mewgenics is a new collaboration between Edmund McMillen, who is widely credited with popularizing the roguelike genre with The Binding of Isaac, and Tyler Glaiel, developer of The End Is Nigh, often called the spiritual successor to Super Meat Boy. The game balances Final Fantasy Tactics-inspired SRPG mechanics, a cat-breeding genetic system boasting 14 classes and over 1,000 deep unique abilities, and roguelike progression. Driven by this depth, the game holds a Metacritic score of 88 and an OpenCritic score of 89 as of September 7, while maintaining a "Very Positive" user rating on Steam in Korea since its initial release last February, despite lacking Korean language support until now.
The Korean language update and console release for Mewgenics are scheduled for September 8, with further details available on its Steam page and respective platform store pages.
