Following a leak controversy involving the hacker group Cyberrick, Rockstar Games' 'GTA6' is now suffering from malware distribution utilizing fake demos.

To date, Rockstar Games has not provided a separate demo for 'GTA6.' Nevertheless, fake demo websites targeting the anticipation of gamers eagerly awaiting its release have surfaced, prompting calls for user caution.

This case is drawing even more attention because it coincides with the recent 'GTA6' leak controversy involving Cyberrick. Cyberrick previously released footage and various materials from 'GTA6' and claimed it would leak a playable version of the game if its demands were not met. Amid these circumstances, cases of malware being distributed using fake 'GTA6' demos as bait have now emerged.

The fake demo websites actually identified were created to look remarkably similar to Rockstar Games' official website, aside from the URL. However, there are differences in the details. The most noticeable difference is the button located at the bottom of the screen. While the official website features a "Pre-Order" button, the fake demo site places a "Play Now" button there instead, making it appear as though an official demo is being offered.

Clicking that button downloads an installer that looks like a game installation file, but it is reported to actually be malicious software. According to foreign media outlets including TechCrunch, the malware is designed to locate and steal passwords, cookies, and login history stored in web browsers after installation.

In particular, highly anticipated games worldwide like 'GTA6' often see various unofficial files and information circulated prior to release, making it highly likely that phishing and malware distribution exploiting this interest will continue. Caution is required, as running files from unclear sources out of eagerness to try the game early could lead to secondary harm such as personal data leaks.

Meanwhile, 'GTA6' is scheduled to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. In addition, a 'GTA6 Extended Look' video will be revealed on Netflix on the 28th at 4:00 AM KST.

In that video, previously undisclosed details of 'GTA6' content are expected to be introduced. Six hours after its exclusive release on Netflix, it will also be available to watch for free on Rockstar Games' official YouTube channel and website.

Following the hacking leak controversy, the emergence of fake demos has led to persistent noise surrounding 'GTA6' ahead of its release. With about three months remaining until its official launch, it is difficult to rule out the possibility of additional similar cases appearing before release, requiring extra caution from users.
