Capcom has released a new demo version for its upcoming title 'Onimusha: Way of the Sword', expanding the game's playable content.
Capcom unveiled the new demo for 'Onimusha: Way of the Sword' during Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live (ONL) on August 26 KST. This demo expands upon the playable scope of the previously released trial version, allowing players to experience the game's combat and content in greater depth ahead of its official launch.
In the previously released demo for 'Onimusha: Way of the Sword', players could control Miyamoto Musashi set against the backdrop of Kiyomizu-dera from the early part of the game. Players engaged in battle against Genma using parries, deflects, the series' signature 'Issen', soul absorption, and Oni weapons, culminating in a clash against Musashi's nemesis, Sasaki Ganryu.
Notably, 'Onimusha: Way of the Sword' is the first mainline entry in the 'Onimusha' series in roughly 20 years. Set in early Edo-period Kyoto, the story follows Miyamoto Musashi, who obtains the Oni Gauntlet, as he fights against otherworldly monsters known as 'Genma'. The game reimagines signature systems from past titles—such as Issen and soul absorption—into modern third-person swordplay action.
Players with save data from the previous demo can receive an in-game equipment item in the full release. However, gameplay progress from the demo will not carry over to the full game.
'Onimusha: Way of the Sword' is scheduled for release on September 4. The demo is currently available to download and play on Steam.
