Brainstore, the publisher behind professional career guides for job seekers such as 'I Really Want to Work in Soccer' and 'I Really Want to Work in Baseball,' has released its latest title: 'I Really Want to Work in Games.'
Available in bookstores nationwide—including Kyobo Book Centre, Yes24, Aladin, and Youngpoong Bookstore—starting today (July 20), the book is packed with encouragement, advice, practical tips, and candid warnings from industry veterans for anyone aspiring to a career in gaming.
To provide practical help, the book features stories from a wide range of professionals who drive the gaming and esports industries, including game designers, developers, programmers, marketers, PR specialists, QA testers, esports front-office staff, coaches, broadcast casters, localizers, influencers, VTubers, and journalists.
Building on its experience with the sports career mentoring series, Brainstore has now turned its focus to the rapidly growing gaming and esports sectors. 'I Really Want to Work in Games' serves as a wise guide for those dreaming of a career in these fields, offering vivid experiences and realistic advice from current industry professionals.
The book was co-authored by Nam Jeong-seok and Jo Hak-dong, both of whom have spent around 25 years working as game journalists, in collaboration with 17 industry professionals currently building their careers in the field.
Covering 17 roles most closely tied to today’s gaming and esports landscape, the authors share detailed insights for students and job seekers looking to enter or start a business in the industry. The book covers essential qualifications and skills, day-to-day responsibilities, compensation and work environments, future prospects, and the kind of insider know-how that only those with real-world experience can provide.
Through the experiences and advice of these specialists, the book conveys a wealth of information and facts, helping readers realize that the gaming industry is a far broader, more diverse, and more complex business and content ecosystem than the public might imagine. The behind-the-scenes stories—detailing the various roles involved in bringing a game to the public—offer both entertainment and insight beyond mere information.
The book goes beyond simple job descriptions by using engaging, natural storytelling to share how these professionals pursued their careers, achieved results, manage their daily routines, and what they look for in the next generation of colleagues.
A representative from Brainstore stated, "We hope that readers can gain indirect experience from the thoughts and journeys of these industry veterans, helping them minimize trial and error. 'I Really Want to Work in Games' will be an invaluable resource for both those preparing for their careers and rookies who have just entered the industry."
