On the 8th, SQUARE ENIX announced that it will terminate service for 'Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis' on October 7, 2026, at 15:00. This comes three years after the mobile game's launch on September 7, 2023.
'Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis' is a mobile remake of the 'Compilation of Final Fantasy VII,' an expanded universe based on 'Final Fantasy VII.' While 'Final Fantasy VII Remake,' released around the same time, featured a unique narrative path distinct from the original in terms of visuals, systems, and story, 'Ever Crisis' was best known for faithfully recreating the atmosphere of the original work.
It did not merely improve visual elements like character modeling and presentation. It included the vast stories of the 'Compilation' series, such as 'Advent Children,' 'Before Crisis,' 'Crisis Core,' and 'Dirge of Cerberus.' As a result, it garnered significant attention at launch for allowing players to experience the entire 'Final Fantasy VII' universe through a single title.
Despite the intense interest from the original fanbase, 'Ever Crisis' could not overcome poor commercial performance and will ultimately shut down. Following the decision to end service, the in-game paid currency, 'Red Crystal,' is no longer available for purchase. Unused Red Crystals will be eligible for refunds after the service ends, with further details to be provided via the official website and other channels.
SQUARE ENIX stated, "We apologize for delivering this sudden news," adding, "Although there is little time left until the service ends, we hope you continue to enjoy the game until the very end."
