MXM Launch Celebration Developer Q&A with Cheezecake

On July 7th (KST), a video interview with the developers of Master X Master was released. The interview was lead by DD, the community manager for MXM, and Cheezecake, a cosplayer. The interview took about 30 minutes, and the developers of MXM revealed many futures plans for MXM, including new Masters, balance updates, more in-game content, and the esports stages for MXM.

First, regarding the addition of new Masters, the developers have revealed that they will be adding 6 to 8 new Masters per year. The new Masters will be either characters from other NC Soft games, or newly created characters with unique characteristics.

Regarding Ranked games, there will be a free season in about a month. The developers believe that the players still need more time to unlock the Masters they want, and get the best Nodes for them. When the players are ready, the Ranked games will begin. The developers also mentioned that they will be monitoring the community (reddit, MXM forum, and Twitter) and are always ready to give the players feedback.

Regarding the plans about new difficulty levels after Nightmare, they said that they do not currently have plans to add a new difficulty. They mentioned that no one beat Nightmare on the first day, and not many parties have beaten Nightmare, even counting up till now. However, they did mention that they will be adding more difficulty options as times passes.

The developers also have revealed that there will be a new PvE mode, the Natium Defense Line. Natium Defense Line is already in the Dispatch UI, and details will be revealed in a few months.

There were also a lot of questions regarding Skins. The players asked if there will be any event-exclusive skins or skins available at conventions like the Nurse Poharan Skin, which was available through the E3 Bundle. The developers answered that there are no specific plans to do that, but they are open to future possibilities. They assured us that there will be a prior notice if new bundles like the E3 Bundle are made available.

New Skins, including the Hex Witch Lilu Skin, will be added in accordance with the season and the time of the year. The developers mentioned that Skins like Hex Witch Lilu are best released during Halloween. In addition to that, they said that they will be holding a Skin design contest and other design contests for different in-game features.

The developers were very insightful regarding balance among different Masters. They said that balancing is one of the hardest jobs we do as game developers, and it is almost impossible to launch a game with perfect balance. The QA team is doing their best to collect feedback from the players and deliver them to the developers so that they can take the players’ opinions into consideration.

They emphasized the fact that balance can be different depending on the game mode, the Master you play, and the strategy you are using. Each Master in MXM requires a different Node setting for best efficiency, and can be more or less powerful according to the game mode they are in.

For example, Sizuka is the Master that was nerfed the most since CBT. However, a lot of players agree that Sizuka is an OP Master even after the nerf. The developers left a tip regarding Sizuka that says you should not fight her 1vs1, and win her by using different crowd control skills.

Regarding esports tournaments for MXM, the developers said that they cannot share any details. However, they said they have recruited an esports manager recently. The esports tournaments are still in the pipeline, but they have a plan to move towards esports tournaments for MXM.

Lastly, the developers left a message for the players: they want the players to communicate with them through social media, forums, and Reddit. Anyone who wishes to say anything about MXM or share any MXM-related content, they can always use the hashtag MXM or PlayMXM in social media and the developers will always be checking the posts. The developers assured players that they are willing to provide any support the players need.
