Ubisoft has announced the return of the Rayman franchise with 'Rayman Legends Retold,' a remake of the 2013 platformer Rayman Legends.
Ubisoft announced its new title, 'Rayman Legends Retold,' during Sony's State of Play event on the 3rd. Based on the 2013 original, 'Rayman Legends,' this is the first main series entry to be released in approximately a decade.
The core of this new title is its visual overhaul. The graphics have been reimagined in a 3D style, moving away from the original's hand-drawn 2D art, though the gameplay retains the same side-scrolling mechanics. The game is reportedly built on Ubisoft's Snowdrop engine, which was used for Star Wars Outlaws.
Changes to the story and content are also notable. While many original stages are returning, a brand-new sixth world has been added.
Development is being led by Ubisoft Montpellier, the studio behind the original, with support from Ubisoft Milan. Although revealed at State of Play, as a third-party Ubisoft title, it will launch simultaneously on October 1st for PS5, XSX|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The PC version will be available via the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
