Cookie Run: OvenSmash, a mobile battle action game developed by PressA, a studio under Devsisters (CEO Cho Gil-hyun), rolled out its first major update on the morning of the 9th.
Since its launch on the 26th of last month, Cookie Run: OvenSmash has been actively incorporating user feedback to optimize the play environment and improve the overall user experience. Prior to this update, the team had already implemented real-time patches to balance cookies and game modes, fix various bugs, and refine matchmaking logic.
As previewed during a live broadcast on the official YouTube channel on the 7th, this update focuses on reducing wait times to enhance overall play convenience while introducing new content, including new cookies and game modes.
Optimizing Play Experience and Significantly Increasing Speed Based on User Feedback
The core of this update lies in various optimizations designed for faster gameplay. First, through meticulous refinement, loading speeds have been reduced. The time from the start of matchmaking to the beginning of a match has been cut by approximately 62%, down to 4.2 seconds. The time it takes to return to the plaza after a match ends has also been reduced by about 67%. Additionally, graphics options such as quality and frame rate have been refined, allowing for smoother gameplay tailored to individual device specifications.
A new 'Waiting Room' lobby has been added, allowing players to quickly move to the next match without needing to return to the plaza. Players can now choose whether to start in the plaza or the waiting room upon logging in. A 'Play Solo' feature has also been introduced, enabling players to start the next match immediately without waiting for other teammates to decide, further reducing downtime.
New Cookies, Modes, and More Content Added
Two new Epic-grade cookies have been added to expand strategic depth. Both are members of 'Lactose,' a prestigious entertainment family with dark secrets, a group that had already garnered significant anticipation from users prior to their release.
The assault-type 'Camembert Cookie' deals damage to enemies in a short, straight line using its basic attack, 'Cold Fist.' It features strong pressure capabilities through its special skill, 'Enforcer's Pursuit,' which increases movement speed after a dash, and its ultimate, 'Time of Purge,' which allows it to suppress enemies while immune to crowd control.
The shooter-type 'Brie Cookie' uses 'Brie Shot,' a basic attack that fires bullets from a revolver. Its special skill, 'Stunt Kick,' stuns enemies for 0.5 seconds, while its ultimate, 'Grand Curtain Call,' summons a bodyguard to provide defense while launching a concentrated barrage. Along with these two cookies, a 'Golden Dragon' skin inspired by the Gongyukhoe region has been added to enhance customization fun.
The new 'Coin Rush' mode is a 3v3 team battle where players collect coins scattered across the map and steal them from the opposing team. The first team to secure 300 coins and hold them for 15 seconds wins. This mode combines the signature Cookie Run fun of running and collecting coins with the PvP elements of Cookie Run: OvenSmash to provide a unique gameplay experience.
The mode rotation system is also being utilized more actively. The highly popular 'Smash Fight' mode will now be permanently available. Furthermore, the nine random maps in this mode have been categorized by terrain—Long-range Shooting, Balanced Strategy, and Close-quarters Clash—and will rotate, allowing players to strategically select cookies based on the map. Two new maps have also been added to the Jelly Race, Drop the Beat, and Gnome Battle modes, further diversifying the combat experience.
