Nexon, NCSoft, Krafton, and Smilegate Join Presidential Committee

Executives from Korea’s leading game companies will take part as civilian members in the newly launched Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the list of 26 civilian members who will serve across seven subcommittees within the committee. The body was established to set a national vision for popular culture exchange policies and to strengthen public-private cooperation, with the aim of promoting the sustained global expansion of Korean pop culture.

The committee is organized into seven divisions, covering popular music, games, webtoons and animation, among others. In the games division, four industry leaders have been appointed as civilian members:

The committee is composed of leading figures from across the global popular culture industries, with the intent of responding to the rapidly changing international environment while also leveraging private-sector expertise.

Alongside this body, the Ministry is also forming a new Cultural and Arts Policy Advisory Committee, which will operate directly under the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This committee is designed to incorporate the voices of those active in the cultural and artistic fields. It will consist of roughly 90 experts from industry, associations, and academia across nine sectors—including the games sector.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-Young stated: “The Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange and the Cultural and Arts Policy Advisory Committee are the twin wings that will help us achieve the 300 trillion won ‘K-Culture’ goal and realize Korea’s vision as a cultural powerhouse. Through these two committees, we will ensure policy consultation and dialogue that encompasses the entire cultural and artistic sphere, without leaving any field neglected.”
