Arteezy is a huge K-pop fan, but the Dota player's origins in the genre contradict themselves

Despite a chaotic broadcasting schedule, Arteezy’s stream still remains one of the most popular attractions in the Dota 2 community. In addition to treating the fans with the highest level of gameplay, the franchise carry player has also been known for his taste in music, which took a few contradicting turns in recent years, especially when it comes to K-pop.

In Monster Energy’s morning show during TI11, Arteezy was asked about how he started listening to K-pop and his answer would shock the fans who have been up to date with the carry player’s music taste.

Dota veterans might remember Arteezy’s playlists that included nothing but old-school hip-hop in 2013. Not only did NA’s pride and joy improve his skills over the years, his taste in music also expanded as he became a more versatile listener. More recently, all kinds of music could be heard on Arteezy’s stream, from classical to K-pop.

“I don't know dude,” Arteezy said. “Passively, over time, my girlfriend loves to dance and she watches these K-pop dance practice videos. I also started watching them, and two years later I’m the biggest K-pop fan.”

Arteezy’s answer meant he only started getting into K-pop in 2020, when he started dating Zhang "Dove" Tiange. Though Arteezy’s evolving music taste could verify his statement, past interviews and a timeline filled with inconsistencies casts a shadow of doubt over his true origins with the music genre.

In a 2020 interview with One Esports where Arteezy’s appreciation for Blackpink’s then hit single “How You Like That” was discussed, Arteezy expressed love for the music genre, a statement that validated the timeline he mentioned on the Monster Energy morning show.

However, in an 2014 interview with Nexon, Dota 2  publisher in South Korea, there were surprising details regarding Artour’s K-pop origins.

Though the original interview no longer exists on Nexon’s page, a translation in Reddit threads remains. According to the interpretation of the original interview, Arteezy was showcased as “A Canadian boy who loves KPOP” in 2014. Six years before his supposed transition to starting to like the genre and four years before meeting his current partner, Dove, who supposedly introduced him to the genre.

Arteezy’s love for K-pop might be genuine as he also attended a Blackpink concert in November 2022. Despite an inconsistent past and an unclear introduction to the K-pop genre, Arteezy looks to be happy with a vast music palette which is all that truly matters.
