OP.GG acquires OGN

The following was sent to Inven Global as press release.

OP.GG acquired the OGN (formerly Ongamenet) channel from CJ ENM. Through this acquisition, OP.GG plans to expand its scope to provide various media content for gamers beyond a platform that directly develops and provides game-related services.

As the first game broadcasting station in the world, OGN has grown into a leader in the game media industry over the past 20 years and led to the birth of esports. OGN is not just a game broadcasting station but has worked hard to establish a game as popular culture by pioneering a new genre of esports, pro esports players and esports casters.

OP.GG is a global game service platform with 55 million monthly active users, providing a variety of services for gamers based on its website, mobile app, and desktop app.

OP.GG CEO Choi Sangrak said, “The world’s first game broadcasting station OGN was the dominant player in the game broadcasting industry for over 20 years. OP.GG is the first to create the concept of a third-party game market. The combination of the two strong players will hold the concept of ‘an IT company with a history of more than 20 years in the gaming industry' that can’t be found anywhere else in the world.”

Nam Yun-seung, former director of OGN's business, joined OP.GG through this acquisition as CEO of OGN, stated, "OGN with OP.GG produces various content not only in the esports league but also in games and new technologies(VR, XR, metaverse, etc.). OGN will now become a professional production studio that has spread content to online platforms beyond the limitations of existing TV platforms, bringing them one step closer to global users.”

The industry is paying close attention to this acquisition as gamers will be spending more time in OP.GG's service through the acquisition of OGN.
