[LCK Today] Fierce race for a ticket straight to the semifinals

In the 2021 League of Legends Champions Korea Summer Split on August 13, Gen.G defeated Fredit BRION 2-1 and Nongshim RedForce swept DRX. With today’s win, Gen.G collected their 11th win of the season with one match remaining against Nongshim RedForce, and Nongshim RedForce took their 12th win to top the standings.

The first match was between Gen.G and Fredit BRION. In game 1, Gen.G started off strong with bot lane priority using Ashe. When Kim “Clid” Tae-min’s Trundle ganked bot lane, they successfully executed a dive and started snowballing. All major objectives went to Gen.G as they fought well avoiding Jayce and Ziggs’ poking and Gen.G took game 1.

Fredit BRION didn’t fall easily. The laning seemed difficult in game 2 as well, but it went the other way. With Ryze, Gnar, and Rakan’s CC chains, Fredit BRION was able to win big teamfights. Afterward, they took care of Gen.G by poking with Park “Hena” Jeung-hwan’s Varus.

In the end, it was Gen.G. Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong’s Zoe and Eom “UmTi” Seong-hyeon’s Nidalee faced off in a poking competition. The winner was Bdd who sniped more champions by jumping over walls. It was a difficult game for Gen.G, but they were able to take the win. With today’s win, Gen.G stopped their losing streak and joined the 11-win club with one match remaining.

The second match was between Nongshim RedForce and DRX. In the first game, the two teams gave and took a lot of kills from early. Although DRX resisted fiercely through Renekton and Ornn, Kim “Gori” Tae-woo’s  LeBlanc didn’t allow any plot twists. In this game, Gori collected his 11th Player of the Game and confirmed a spot for Player of the Split.

Game 2 was similar. This time, DRX picked Maokai instead of Ornn. The Maokai pick seemed to work for a while, but Nongshim RedForce was much stronger. As Han “Peanut” Wang-ho’s Lee Sin started to pull off great plays here and there, there was no way DRX could come back. Nongshim RedForce took the win and became the first team to reach the 12-win mark this season.
