After weeks of anticipation, Pokémon UNITE, The Pokémon Company's venture into the MOBA space, has a release date.

In an announcement across all of the game's social platforms on Thursday morning, players will only have to wait a few more days to get their hands on the free title. Scheduled to go live on Wednesday, July 21 on the Nintendo Switch, Pokémon UNITE combines elements of their iconic franchise with the world of 5 on 5 combat into a crossover that fans of both could only dream on.

With 20 playable characters on launch, including household names such as Pikachu, Charizard, and Snorlax, players will traverse a multi-lane environment to control space, defeat the opposition in combat, and score points via a goal-scoring system.

Similar to titles in the MOBA space such as League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm, each Pokémon is assigned a role that dictates their specific niche on the battlefield. Broken down into Attacker, Speedster, All-Rounder, Defender, and Supporter, each playable character has a myriad of abilities and attacks they wield, including an ultimate ability to turn the tides of combat.

The title is also coming to mobile devices later in the year but a release date was not announced.
