1st seed team has a worse schedule? — Controversy rises with the 2021 MSI semifinals schedule

The semifinals teams of the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational have been fixed, but the schedule brings up a big question mark. Riot Games announced the schedule after all of the Rumble Stage games were finished. According to the announcement, DWG KIA will face MAD Lions on the second day, and Royal Never Give Up will play PSG Talon on the first day.

The issue brought up with the schedule was that DWG KIA, the top seed team in the Rumble Stage, is playing later than Royal Never Give Up, the second seed team. As the semifinals and finals schedule is held on three consecutive days, the team that wins on the second day would have to play two days in a row for the finals. Up to now, the 1st seed teams during the tournament stage in previous MSIs have never had to play the semifinals on the second day, but in this tournament, DWG KIA was placed on the second day.

On this issue, Riot Korea said, “The LCK doesn’t really understand the schedule change as well. We’re taking it seriously and we’ve protested to Riot Central. We’re discussing the situation with them.” However, time is very limited until the next stage. It’s very unlikely that the schedule will be changed.
