Schalke 04 Esports, the League of Legends European Championship team of FC Schalke 04, has wasted no time making moves this off-season. A few days after Schalke 04 Esports' re-signing of Head Coach Dylan Falco for the 2021 season, jungler Erberk "Gilius" Demir has also re-signed with the royal blue for another season.

Schalke 04 Esports had a little fun announcing the re-signing of its electrifying jungler, using six tweets throughout the day to spell out 'GILIUS' with the first letter of each tweet. Since both Gilius and Dylan Falco were still under contract with S04 Esports, the organization did not need to wait until the start of the free agency window on Monday, November 16 at 7:00pm ET to simply renew both contracts. 

Gilius took over the starting jungler position for S04 after the team started the 2020 LEC Summer Split with an abysmal 0-7 record. Gilius was able to help his secure the team's first win, but at 1-11 after 12 games, S04 would need to win its last six games of the split to avoid elimination.

Between game-changing pivotal plays from Gilius and consistently incredible performances from mid laner Felix "Abbedagge" Braun, S04 won its last six games including matches against the likes of G2 Esports, Fnatic, and MAD Lions. S04 swept SK Gaming in the playoffs and was one 2020 LEC Summer Playoffs series away from qualifying for Worlds 2020, but found itself eliminated 3-1 at the hands of eventual European #4 seed MAD Lions. 

Despite coming up just short, Gilius' transformation of FC Schalke 04 Esports was undeniable. Players who were previously playing well individually were more properly facilitated, and the team as a whole seemed to gel much better than previous iterations of the roster in 2020.

In 2021, Gilius will look to prove that last summer was not lightning in a bottle as he attempts to establish himself as a full-time LEC starting jungler for the first time in his seven year career.
