Dignitas signed a few new players this off-season, securing former TSM Jungler, Joshua "Dardoch" Hartnett, and former FlyQuest Top Laner and Support, Omran "V1per" Shoura and Juan "JayJ" Guibert. Additionally, Tanner "Damonte" Damonte left the org, joining Golden Guardians as the starting mid, which prompted Dignitas to move Kim "Fenix" Jae-hun back to the mid lane, and sign Toàn "Asta" Trần as their second bot laner.
With so many changes, and with most - if not all - of the players being a similar caliber, Dignitas decided to hold a sort of tryout, or internal competition, that would determine the best synergies and skill ceilings that would create the highest caliber LCS starting roster among the 10 players they had. Most of the external focus on who would start revolved around the top side of the map, for both the Top Lane and Jungle position.
Dardoch spent the entire split as TSM's starting Jungler, while Matthew "Akaadian" Higginbotham only started the second half of the split. Samson "Lourlo" Jackson started the entire Spring Split on Dignitas' Academy roster, while V1per played most of Spring as FlyQuests' starter only recently being replaced by Colin "Solo" Earnest at the end of the Split. While it was somewhat expected for Dignitas' Mid and Bot Lane to stay the same, there was much debate around the community on what the top duo would be.
For Week 1 of the LCS Summer Split, Dignitas decided on Akaadian and V1per, but this may change going forward. Dignitas will be reevaluating their entire starting roster each week, with potential to move any player up or down, depending on synergy, champion mastery, grasp of the meta, work ethic, etc. Dignitas play their first game against Golden Guardians and former teammate Damonte on Saturday, and they play their second game against TSM Sunday.
