EDG and Vici advance to the Demacia Cup semifinals, iBoy will face his former team

The first two 2019 Demacia Cup Quarterfinal matches featured Vici Gaming vs Top Esports and EDG vs Team WE, with Vici and EDG taking the win to advance further into the Knockout Stage. JD Gaming will face Bilibili Gaming today, followed by Rogue Warriors vs RNG to close out the Quarters.

Vici Gaming features a few big roster upgrades, particularly in Deng "Forge" Jie and Hu "iBoy" Xian-Zhao, mid and bot lane respectively. They also brought in Kim "kkOma" Jeong-gyun and some other staff (but kkOma is not coaching for this tournament). These upgrades helped the last place Summer Split team, Vici Gaming, to beat a top four Summer Split team, TES, who also had some upgrades of their own. TES's Hung "Karsa" Hao-Hsuan and Zhuo "knight" Ding are perhaps the strongest mid-jungle duo, but VG was able to win on the day.

iBoy particularly had a strong performance, going a combined 21/0/19 KDA in the team's three wins. Hu "Maestro" Jian-Xin was also instrumental in his success as well, with a 7/2/30 KDA himself. The team is already a strong contender, and once kkOma joins the crew, they may just become unstoppable.

EDG completed a reverse sweep against WE, which is always fun (for the winner at least), meaning iBoy will face his former team in the Semis, and Ming "Clearlove" Kai already has a reverse sweep under his belt in his first best-of series as a coach! EDG also missed Worlds for the first time this year since its inception, so a strong performance here is a good sign for a bounceback in 2020.

The two teams will face off later this week in the Semis, but not before the rest of the Quarters happening tonight. Be sure to check in for more on the Demacia Cup (and KeSPA Cup) by following our Twitter below.
